What impact does a multi-grade classroom have on academic and social development?
A large study conducted in the mid 1990’s showed that students in multi-grade classrooms perform equally as well as students in single grade classrooms. The study also concluded that students in multi-grade rooms had better attitudes towards school, self-concept and personal and social adjustment than students in single grade classrooms (Cognitive and non-cognitive effects of multi-grade classes: A best evidence synthesis, Simon Veenman (1995)).
